THE PERFECT FIT.

The innovative collaboration between
Martin Böhme & Georg Selders

THE PERFECT FIT. stands for more than just the right combination of instrument, mouthpiece, and player—it is our mission to develop customized solutions that make playing noticeably easier.

In addition to cryogenic treatment, my focus is on mouthpiece construction and the development of innovative tuning components. With a fresh perspective on traditional construction methods, I question the familiar, combine the tried and tested with new ideas, and optimize every detail for the best possible sound quality and response.

Together with Martin Böhme, master brass instrument manufacturer and specialist for trumpets, flugelhorns, and cornets, this resulted in THE PERFECT FIT—a practical development program for the precise coordination of materials and components.

What we offer:

  • Customized mouthpieces – perfectly tailored to Böhme instruments and individual playing styles and applications
  • Selected tuning components – flexibly combinable, specifically designed for optimal resonance and sound effect depending on the task at hand
  • Consulting & development – in direct dialogue with musicians, practice-oriented and comprehensible

THE PERFECT FIT. means:

Finely tuned solutions, precisely manufactured, musically sensible – for equipment that truly suits you.

By the way, this partnership also led to a collaboration with Lorenzo Ludemann, and together we developed the Lorenzo Ludemann Signature Mouthpiece Series — perfectly matched to the LL-Böhme trumpet.

"Freakhorn" - The Perfect Fit.

The FREAKHORN was developed for musicians who do not search for their own sound — but shape it.

Created through the collaboration between Martin Böhme and Georg Selders, this extraordinary instrument combines handcrafted precision, tonal vision, and innovative attention to detail.

Every component serves one purpose: maximum expressive freedom with the highest level of playing comfort.

The FREAKHORN is a highly adaptable trumpet that offers maximum flexibility both in tonal character and playing response. Thanks to its unique construction features, the instrument can be precisely tailored to individual requirements and a wide range of performance situations — from powerful soloistic projection to a rich and supportive ensemble sound.

The slightly larger bell with a diameter of 135 mm produces an especially full-bodied, rich tone with excellent projection. Both the bell and leadpipe feature a subtle curvature, further influencing the instrument’s resonance characteristics. The long, specially developed reverse leadpipe made of gold brass supports an open response and highly nuanced tonal shaping.

A central element of the customizable setup is the screw-on mouthpiece receiver. Included are both heavy and lightweight versions in nickel silver and brass. Additional variants — including special aluminum, wood, or bronze — are optionally available. Furthermore, individual GAP settings can be achieved through custom-made receivers, allowing the mouthpiece setup to be precisely adjusted to personal preferences.

The two tuning-slide stop screws are also intentionally positioned at a resonance-relevant point. Different screw variants noticeably influence both playing characteristics and tonal color. The instrument comes with two screw sets (large/small) in nickel silver and brass. Optional materials such as copper, titanium, or special aluminum are also available.

For additional tonal versatility, two tuning slides are included:

  • a traditional square tuning slide without brace, made of brass with nickel silver slides
  • a rounded copper tuning slide with a brass inner slide, nickel silver outer slide, and brace

The connection points between the leadpipe, bell, and valve section are deliberately positioned. The attachment to the valve block is located at the first and third valves — rather than the conventional second valve — resulting in a noticeable effect on resonance and response.

The instrument is equipped with a Meinlschmidt MAW valve block, renowned for its precise mechanics, reliable operation, and exceptionally accurate valve guidance.

An additional thumb hook on the leadpipe allows comfortable one-handed handling and operation of the trumpet, for example when using mutes.

An integrated Bluetooth switch can be paired with an iPad or tablet, enabling convenient page-turning of digital sheet music while playing.

Visually, the instrument features a brushed matte-gold lacquer finish. The slides, valve buttons, and caps are coated in black rhodium, creating a striking and modern appearance.

The Freakhorn combines innovative construction details, premium materials, and modular customization options into a highly versatile instrument with extraordinary creative potential.

In summary...
